Use John 10:9 to guide your prayer over Mosul-
“I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture.”
Pray for the people of Mosul to know Jesus as the Door/Gate to be saved.
The Kurds
The Kurds have a long and complicated history in Mosul. The Kurds are an ethnic group from Kurdistan (the region in northern Iraq, north-eastern Syria, south-eastern Turkey, and north-western Iran). The Kurds have faced regular periods of discrimination and displacement from the Iraqi government, affecting their ability to live and claim land in Mosul. Many Kurds were forced to leave Mosul in the 1970s, but were able to return after the fall of Saddam Hussein in the early 2000s. This created strong tensions between Kurds and Arabs who were then in conflict over property that was allegedly appropriated by the Iraqi government. But Kurds had to flee once again when ISIS took over Mosul in June 2014. Most Kurds have not returned to the city and are still fearful of the city because of their experiences there.
Pray for Kurds and Arabs to live in peace in Mosul through Jesus, the One who unites every tribe and nation in His Kingdom. May Kurds know true security, acceptance, peace, and reconciliation in Christ.
Redeemer
May the people of Mosul wait for the blessed hope- the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for the people of Mosul to redeem the people of Mosul from all wickedness and purify for Himself the Moslawi people that are His very own, eager to do what is good (Titus 2:13-14). May the revelation of Christ the Redeemer be released over the city of Mosul. Pray for the Moslawi peoples to know personally what it means that Jesus is the Redeemer. That He is their Redeemer.
(The Parable of the Net) “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind.” (Matthew 13:47-50) May the people of Mosul of every kind be brought in Your glorious Kingdom, even this month. We pray for wealthy and poor, educated and uneducated, religious and secular, young and old to be among the ’good fish’ at the end of the age.
