Use the story of Luke 18:9-14 to guide your prayer over Mosul
To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people- robbers, evil doers, adulterers- or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’ But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner’. I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
May there be a spirit of humility to come.
Political Leaders
Please pray for all leaders in any level of the government to lead with wisdom and integrity and to come to faith in Jesus.
Righteous
Please pray for the righteousness of Christ to be revealed, released, and received throughout the city of Mosul.
Please pray for the power of lies to be broken and for people to recognize and believe what is true. There are a lot of lies believed about the Christian faith that are spread in Islam. Pray especially against the lies that the Bible was corrupted and pray that it will be recognized as God’s Word.
Some other common lies believed about the Christian faith:
–Jesus didn’t die. He was taken up to heaven by God without ever dying. Someone else was crucified that looked like Jesus.
–Christians believe in 3 gods. Or they believe that our trinity is the Father, Jesus, and Mary, and that God and Mary had a relationship, leading to the birth of Christ.
–Jesus is a prophet that did many miracles (that part is true!), but he’s nothing more.
–What is seen in Hollywood and in the movies is representative of Christianity and reflects our faith.
May these lies all be torn down in Jesus’ Name!
