Use Isaiah 59:1a to guide your prayer over Mosul-
“Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save”
Mosul has been known throughout the years for the presence of different religious extremist groups and militia groups within it. Yet whoever it is, whether a member of an extremist group, or a woman who has hardened her heart because of her pain, not one person in Mosul is too far out of reach for the Lord. There is no heart too hard for Jesus. Please pray for all in Mosul to come to repentance and to be redeemed. Pray that they would know the joy and freedom of being called sons and daughters.
Shia Muslims
Though Mosul is largely a Sunni city, with a majority Sunni population, there are still Shia Muslims in and around the city. There are especially Shia militias that control many of the checkpoints surrounding the city. The Sunnis and Shias have historically been at odds with each other. In recent years, there has been progress in the two groups being at peace with one another, but there are still strong tensions and dislike between them. The Shia groups are known for being aggressive and oppositional. Please pray for the Shia peoples represented in and around Mosul. Pray for a softness of heart and an openness to the Spirit. May the Lord move in such powerful ways among the Shia that it will even lead to revival among the Sunnis as they bear witness to the power of God in the lives of the Shia peoples!
Compassion/Compassionate
May the peoples of Mosul know the compassion of Christ. Fully, personally, intimately.
“And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” (Acts 4:30-31) Do it, Lord, please!
